Inexpensive Places To Shop In Rome

Shopping in Rome can get expensive depending on where you go so here are a few markets and areas to shop in that won't burn a hole in your wallet!
Don't forget to take a look at the Rome Shopping Guide as well before you plan your shopping day!

Viale Marconi

Take the subway line B to the Viale Marfconi subway stop. Once you get there take either the 170 or 791 bus to the section where the stores begin on Viale Marconi. This street can be very busy, so this might be one of the locations you should check out during the week instead of on a weekend.

This area is very popular with young trendy Romans, and is loted about 15 minutes away from the Colosseum.

One place you might want to check here is called: Galbusera This is a well known manufacturer of cookies and panettone, and also offers chocolates and candies.
Hours: 8:30 to 19:30, closed Saturday
Via Marconi 20 (Agrate), tel: (039) 6056333

Porta Portese

On Sundays there is a flea market called Porta Portese. It is walking distance from the Viale Marconi shops so you can follow the same directions that are listed above. You will find it on the left bank of the Tiver, between Porta Portese and Stazione Trastevere, centered on Vio Portuense. The market is open every Sunday from sun rise to 1pm as long as the weather is permitting.

The main item for sale that you will find here are both new and used clothes, but there are lots of other things as well. The second-hand clothing booths are very popular, with clothes sorted by type (ie, leathers and furs, jeans, coats, etc.) and are usually just piled on large tables with everything at the same low price.

Trastevere

Rome shopping The old city called Trastevere has lots of unique little shops that are not very expensive. To get there take the B line and get off at the Piramide stop and take the number 8 tram from there to Trastevere.

Trastevere is a very old area and maintains its character thanks to its narrow cobbled streets lined by medieval houses. At night the streets both Italians and foreigners flock to its many pubs and restaurants which makes it a great place to check out any time of the day.

If you can, check out: GraphicArt Bazaar.
